Someone at the Yahoo Sports web team pushed the victory button a little early and declared the Blackhawks (who eventually won and maybe allowed Yahoo to save a little face) as the game 5 winners despite the fact that the teams were about to head into overtime.

With the recent scrutiny of online reporting practices (especially the factual inaccuracies of the Newtown shootings and the Boston Bombings) you’d think web content editors would have better procedures in place to prevent this very thing. (Of course something like declaring a winning team shouldn’t be rocket science)

This isn’t the week’s sole sports gaffe. CNN said Kevin De Bruyne was linked in a move to Chelsea … forgetting the fact the team already owns him.

This isn’t the first time or the last time something like this will happen but remember, miracles do happen so don’t say it’s over until it’s officially over.
